ChatGPT Finances expands to Free and Go users in the US
OpenAI expands its personal finance tool to more U.S. users, with connected account insights but no ability to move money or make trades.

OpenAI is expanding Finances in ChatGPT to Free and Go users in the United States. Its October 2 release notes describe a rollout across web, iOS and Android, widening access to a tool for reviewing connected financial information.
The original finance preview began for U.S. Pro subscribers on May 15. An update on June 25 extended it to Plus users and added Android availability. The October announcement opens another access tier for the existing experience.
Two kinds of financial connection
OpenAI’s current Finances guide describes separate connections for bank information through Plaid and credit reports through Experian. Users can choose either or both. The dashboard can bring together spending, subscriptions, bills, net worth and investments, depending on the data supplied.
Credit information uses an Experian report and VantageScore 3.0, with monthly updates. That timing differs from bank activity. An institution may also provide balances without every transaction or investment detail, leaving gaps in the picture ChatGPT can analyze.
An explanation tool with clear limits
Finances cannot move money, pay bills, make trades, change account settings or file taxes. OpenAI says responses are for information and planning, and directs users to qualified professionals for decisions with legal, tax or investment consequences.
These limits make checking the underlying records important. A fluent explanation cannot fill a missing transaction history or turn an older credit report into a current account balance.
Privacy choices travel with the account
OpenAI says conversations involving connected financial accounts follow the model training choices users make for ChatGPT. Its original product documentation says synced account data is deleted from OpenAI’s systems within 30 days after disconnection. Financial details already present in conversation history remain until those conversations are deleted separately.
The data controls guide explains how to turn off Improve the model for everyone in Settings. New conversations then stop being used for training, while saved chats remain in history. For signed in users, the setting applies across devices. OpenAI also warns that submitting feedback can allow the associated conversation to be used for training even after an opt out.
Financial memories are another separate control. Users can review and delete the goals or obligations saved there from the Finances page.
What changes for users
The expansion gives more U.S. users a way to examine their own records through conversation. Its value will depend on the completeness of those records and whether the resulting explanation is useful enough to check against them. Wider access alone establishes neither better financial outcomes nor more accurate advice.
It follows another consumer update covered by ByteForward, ChatGPT’s virtual clothing previews and saved shopping products, which arrived on October 1.
