Audible adds cast guides and plans AI character conversations

Audible adds cast guides and plans interactive extras for a limited beta

Listen to this article

Audible announced AI assisted listening features on October 1 for a limited US and UK beta.

What arrives and what follows

Character Guide identifies speakers and displays cast cards in Dracula and 1984. Questions about the production are coming later.

Interactive Story is planned for this fall, starting with Renfield conversations beyond Dracula’s recorded narrative. Creators shape personas, openings and turning points, Audible says. Exoplanet’s story and guide are due November 5.

Visual Explorer is also coming soon, pairing relevant images with listening. The named example is The Cultural Tutor’s Grand Tour.

Separate the bonus from the book

The Dracula adaptation announced in July has a human ensemble cast, a script by Robyn Ahern, direction by Mary Lambert and a score by Ilan Eshkeri. Its current listing credits Johnny Flynn as Renfield. That credit alone does not establish how the interactive character’s voice is produced.

Audible also had an earlier Ask a Question beta, described in October 2025. It let US listeners ask about characters, plots and historical context in eligible classic and public domain titles. The new announcement should not be read as Audible’s first experiment with AI inside a story.

The announcement does not identify the underlying model, explain recording retention or establish access for every account. ByteForward has not tested the beta.

For listeners, the useful check is whether the specific bonus appears for their title and account. Review its permissions and data controls before choosing to speak to a character.

Jordan Reid is focused on AI tools, agents, developer products, and the way technology changes everyday work. Jordan approaches a launch from the user’s side of the screen. What can it actually help someone finish? The voice is practical, conversational, and skeptical of products that turn a simple job into five new settings. Coverage follows coding assistants, creative software, browser agents, and the workflows around them, with attention to pricing, permissions, setup, and the human work that remains.
