Microsoft publishes sovereign AI guidance with NVIDIA

A new whitepaper sets out workload controls and deployment choices.

Listen to this article

Microsoft announced a sovereign AI whitepaper developed with NVIDIA on October 5. It sets out a framework for governments and regulated organizations choosing how to operate AI workloads.

The framework centers on control, choice, flexibility and resilience. Its starting questions cover where data is processed, who administers systems, which models can be used and what must keep running during disruption.

The whitepaper compares public cloud, private cloud and partner operated environments. It describes Azure Local and Foundry Local deployments that keep selected NVIDIA Nemotron models close to sensitive data.

Microsoft recommends assessing security, access and audit requirements for each workload, then testing dependencies and continuity assumptions.

The announcement introduces guidance around Microsoft and NVIDIA technologies. It gives organizations a planning framework without establishing that a particular deployment meets their legal or operational requirements.
