Pictory 3 adds an AI video agent with review checkpoints

Pictory announced Pictory 3 on October 22, adding an AI video agent that prepares a script, scenes and a preview for review. The launch announcement says new users enter the experience as it rolls out. It does not promise that every existing account has already switched.
The useful change is the handoff between a brief and an editable production, rather than a claim that a new model makes better footage. For teams turning approved material into training or help videos, the questions are how much correction the draft needs and what those revisions consume.
What the agent does before the first preview
For an idea based project, the Pictory 3 creation guide presents five setup choices covering voiceover, visual sources, aspect ratio, layout preset and brand kit. The user checks the setup summary before creating the script, then reviews each scene and its proposed visuals before generating a preview. Chat revisions and direct editing remain available afterward.
The product overview accepts an idea, approved script, web page, documents, PowerPoint deck or audio recording. It also separates this production workflow from AI Studio, where creators generate individual images or clips using the models available inside Pictory. That distinction matters when evaluating whether the tool solves assembly work or just supplies another visual asset.
Documents and URLs share a limit of five sources per creation request. Existing projects remain in Projects and do not automatically convert to the new experience. Open an older project through its available editor rather than assuming the launch migrates it.
Chat edits still need scene level checks
Pictory’s editing guide recommends naming the scene, the requested change and what must remain untouched. A creator can ask for a different visual while preserving narration and scene order. For precise adjustments, the editor exposes separate controls for story, visuals, audio, text and branding. After narration edits, Apply Changes updates the AI voiceover.
This is a useful division of work, not evidence that a conversational instruction will preserve everything correctly. Replacing a picture can change the meaning of a scene without changing its words. Review the neighboring scenes as well as the edited one, especially when a sequence explains a procedure.
The announcement also draws a boundary around the agent. Personal avatars, voice clones and project translation are handled in the editor, not created or performed by the agent itself.
Credits make revision behavior part of the cost
The generation and credits guide says AI creation, revision, voices, AI Studio, transcription, avatars and video generation use AI Credits. The account header exposes the balance and a usage history. A downloaded file reflects the version that was generated, so later edits require another generation. Downloading an existing completed file is a different action.
The practical consequence is to budget for a finished acceptable video, not merely the first preview. Record the starting balance, the revisions made and the final balance during a pilot. That will expose whether time saved in assembly is being spent on repeated corrections or additional generation. This is an evaluation method, not a measured Pictory cost comparison.
What access and pricing currently include
Pictory’s pricing page lists Starter at $25 per month billed annually or $29 billed monthly. The annual option supplies 24,000 credits upfront, while the monthly option lists 2,000 credits. The AI video agent is included in the listed plans. Those allowances should not be read as unlimited generation, even where the plan lists unlimited videos.
The free trial lasts 14 days and lists 300 credits, three videos, Pictory branding and exports up to 720p. Paid plans list 1080p exports. API access uses separate plans. Prices and allowances are the public offers checked for this article, not a guarantee of what an individual account or checkout will show.
A better first test than a polished demo
Start with a short source whose facts are already approved and define the mistakes that would make the result unusable. Check whether the script preserves those facts, whether visuals explain the intended action, and whether the downloaded file matches the final review. Treat factual accuracy, presentation quality and production effort as separate results.
Our comparison of nine AI video outputs illustrates why following a brief and producing an appealing scene are different judgments. That article tests clips rather than Pictory’s workflow, so its model scores are not evidence of how this agent performs.
Pictory documents a process with several human checkpoints. We have reviewed the announcement and public instructions, not run a production test. The release is worth assessing as a way to prepare an editable first version, with the review burden and credit use included in the decision.
