InvokeAI 7 alpha organizes creative work into projects

The experimental update brings a redesigned workspace and audio support

Listen to this article

InvokeAI released version 7 alpha 1 on October 4 with a redesigned creative workspace. The project warns against using this experimental build for work you cannot afford to lose.

Projects keep work together

Each project holds canvas layers, workflows, layout and a gallery board. Projects save automatically and export as .invk files. Undo history disappears when a project closes or reloads.

A workbench for images and sound

The new workbench brings generation and editing panels into one interface. MiniMax H3 and LTX 2.5 support video with audio. The video guide labels generation a prototype.

Keep the alpha separate

Version 7 needs Python 3.12. Opening an existing version 6 data directory upgrades its database, which version 6 cannot then open. The release recommends a new empty directory for testing.

The useful test is a small creative job you can recreate. Check whether its saved layout, references and outputs let you pick up the work cleanly. Keep separate backups of anything important.

ByteForward reviewed the release and documentation. We have not installed the alpha or tested its output.

Jordan Reid is focused on AI tools, agents, developer products, and the way technology changes everyday work. Jordan approaches a launch from the userโ€™s side of the screen. What can it actually help someone finish? The voice is practical, conversational, and skeptical of products that turn a simple job into five new settings. Coverage follows coding assistants, creative software, browser agents, and the workflows around them, with attention to pricing, permissions, setup, and the human work that remains.
