MiniMax sets a week of unlimited M3.1 use in Code

MiniMax announces unlimited M3.1 Flash Preview use in Code from October 1 to 7. Existing subscribers should check what an M Plan upgrade would remove.

Listen to this article

MiniMax has announced unlimited use of M3.1 Flash Preview inside MiniMax Code for subscribers from October 1 through October 7. The offer accompanies its planned transition from Token Plan to M Plan and an update to the company’s agent application.

The dates make this immediately relevant to people evaluating the model. The offer’s scope also matters. MiniMax names its own Code application, so the announcement should not be read as unlimited access through every API or connected coding tool.

The offer comes with a release condition

The September 29 announcement ties the new offers and features to the release of MiniMax Code version 3.1.0. It also advertises a 50 percent discount for the first month of eligible new M Plan subscriptions or upgrades through October 14, with regular pricing afterward.

The published schedule gives readers a useful starting point, but it does not establish that an individual account has received every part of the update. Check the version and the offer shown in the account before making plans around the temporary allowance.

What the three M Plan tiers include

MiniMax’s M Plan overview lists M3.1 Flash Preview across all three tiers. The differences concern the amount of usage and access to video generation.

All three tiers also include image and audio models. MiniMax says the subscription can be used directly in Code or through supported outside tools with a subscription key. That broader compatibility is separate from the temporary Code offer.

Existing Token Plan subscribers should read the tradeoff

MiniMax says existing Token Plan benefits remain while automatic renewal stays enabled. Upgrading to M Plan removes historical discounts and extra benefits, including legacy unlimited allowances and increased weekly quotas. If renewal is disabled or interrupted, the old plan cannot be purchased again under the announced terms.

That creates a real reason to pause before upgrading. A first month discount may be less valuable than an existing benefit that disappears permanently. Compare the current renewal price, included usage and special allowances with the new plan over several months, using the work actually being done.

A subscription key and a standard API key bill differently

The official FAQ distinguishes keys that consume subscription usage from standard API keys that charge the account balance. It says supported tools share the same subscription allowance. Opening another coding application does not create a separate pool.

Outside special offers, text and other nonvideo use is governed by five hour and weekly windows. Video uses the weekly window. The FAQ also describes rate limits that may tighten during peak traffic. MiniMax also says the plans are designed for individual interactive use and recommends standard usage based billing for production workloads.

Readers comparing these approaches can see our breakdown of GPT 6.1 Sol’s API prices. The useful comparison is the cost of finished work under each arrangement, including retries and time spent checking the output.

Use the offer to answer a specific question

A practical evaluation could use a small set of real tasks with clear acceptance criteria. Keep the inputs consistent, record where intervention is needed and check the results with the same tests used for ordinary work. The aim is to learn whether the model fits a workflow.

Subscription benefits and model quality answer different questions. A generous temporary allowance creates room to experiment. Before committing to a plan, establish what the workflow will cost after the offer, which existing benefits would be lost and whether the results justify the change.
