xAI ships Grok Imagine Image 2.0 — region-level editing becomes first-class
xAI’s Imagine Image 2.0 treats region-level editing as a core feature, expanding Grok’s image stack into wand, background, and multi-reference edits.

August 7 model trackers and xAI docs describe Grok Imagine Image 2.0 adding region-level editing — magic wand, background removal, multi-reference — as a first-class capability on grok.com/imagine and the apps. x.ai/blog and AI/TLDR are the listed sources. Confirm the news/docs post at publish. Complements Voice Think Fast 2.0. Does not overlap Grok Bot.
Imagine 1.x was generate-and-pray. Region edits are how you stop regenerating the whole frame to fix a hand.
Editing features that ship
Tracker language: magic wand, background removal, multi-reference, region-level control. Those are Photoshop-class verbs. The Models question is whether they are real masks or a prompt rewrite with a UI. If xAI’s post shows a wand that selects a region and leaves the rest pixel-locked, that is the upgrade. If it is just in-painting with extra buttons, say so.
Multi-reference is the brand-consistency play: hold a face or a product across edits. Test identity lock the same way you would test Seedance references.
Arena standing claims
If xAI or a tracker cites an image-arena rank for 2.0, quote the snapshot date. Arena ranks move. A generate-only Elo does not prove an editor. Prefer an edit-specific bake-off: remove background, swap an object, keep lighting.
No arena number in the pack means do not invent one.
App and API surfaces
grok.com/imagine plus iOS/Android is the consumer path. API access, if any, will be on the xAI docs. A consumer editor without an API is a growth loop, not a pipeline. Check whether region edits are in the API or only in the app. Production teams cannot wand a thousand SKUs by hand.
How it changes Imagine workflows
First-class region edits change the loop from “regen until lucky” to “lock the frame, fix the fault.” That is how Imagine becomes a tool instead of a slot machine. It also raises the disclosure question California just made expensive: edited regions are still AI-generated content.
Grok Imagine Image 2.0 is an August 7 editor drop. Take the xAI OG over the tracker. Try the wand on a face you care about before you retire the old Imagine string.
xAI is stacking July–August surfaces: Grok 4.5 for cheap coding tokens, Voice Think Fast 2.0 for 0.70s audio, Imagine 2.0 for region edits. Keep the SKUs separate in your stack. An Imagine wand does not inherit Grok 4.5’s Terminal-Bench claim, and a voice alias migration does not change Imagine’s API.
If the official post is late, do not ship this article’s feature list as fact. Ship it as tracker language awaiting an OG image and a docs section named Image 2.0.
