OpenAI raises Work and Codex limits, cancels Pro 200 cuts

Updated October 30, 2026 (UTC), with the original announcement’s Business Premium multiplier and continued dot allowance details.
OpenAI increased included Work and Codex usage on October 29, but the change is not an extra doubling for every Pro subscriber. Its dated release notes say Pro 100 and Pro 500 get twice their previous allowance. Pro 200 users who already had the higher allowance keep it; those on the lower allowance move up to match.
That distinction matters if you were expecting a larger meter today. The announcement both expands access and cancels a planned reduction. Keeping an existing allowance is a different outcome from receiving another increase.
Which plans actually get more Work and Codex usage?
| Plan or account | October 29 change |
|---|---|
| Pro 100 | Twice the previous Work and Codex allowance |
| Pro 200, previously lower allowance | Doubled to match the higher allowance |
| Pro 200, already higher allowance | Keeps that allowance; planned reduction canceled |
| Pro 500 | Twice the previous Work and Codex allowance |
| Business Premium | Twice the previous allowance, according to Tibo’s October 29 announcement |
| Plus | No usage change |
The Pro plan guide says existing subscribers receive the updated allowance automatically, without waiting for renewal. Pro 200 stays $200 per month. There is no need to cancel and subscribe again to obtain the change.
Chat messages are a separate limit
The Pro guide distinguishes Work and Codex from weekly GPT-6 Pro messages in Chat. Pro 100 and Pro 500 retain their current weekly Chat limits. For Pro 200, the lower weekly limit rises to match the higher one; accounts already on that higher limit stay there. Ultrafast remains a Pro 500 feature.
For teams, the Business limits guide likewise separates Chat allowances from Work and Codex. Premium includes 50 Pro messages per week shared across GPT-6 Pro and GPT-5.6 Sol Pro. Switching between those models does not create a second allowance. The seat name and the Pro model option also mean different things.
Extended dot limits continue separately
In the same October 29 announcement, OpenAI’s Tibo said extended limits for dots would continue for now, with dot usage still separate from ordinary usage. No new end date was given. This continues the temporary arrangement, rather than promising permanently unlimited dot work.
More allowance is not a task-count guarantee
A useful comparison needs the same model, reasoning effort and workload. A short edit and a long repository investigation are not equivalent units. OpenAI says actual usage depends on the task and settings, so twice the allowance should not be presented as a promise of twice as many completed jobs. ByteForward has not run a before-and-after quota test.
Do not confuse this with API credits
The separate ChatGPT-linked API credit benefit funds one eligible API organization. It does not expand signed-in Codex or ChatGPT allowances. Activation, eligibility and credit expiration apply separately. A subscription change, an API grant and a Work usage increase should therefore be checked as three distinct account events, rather than treated as interchangeable balances.
For a practical check, identify your plan and the experience where you hit a limit before comparing the new allowance. This announcement establishes the current policy, not a guarantee that future limits will never change.
