Workday connects Claude and Sana for business workflows

Workday and Anthropic announced a partnership on October 13 that connects Claude with Sana agents for HR and finance work. Sana in Claude is in early access, with general availability expected in late 2026.
How Claude and Sana work together
The integration uses the Model Context Protocol to exchange tasks and context. Employees can work through Sana agents inside Claude. Sana can also call Claude for a reasoning step, sharing the context that step needs. Workday says its permissions and audit controls apply, and users confirm changes.
Agent Ready Tools are generally available through Workday Extend AI. Delivery through the Claude plugin is planned for later this year.
What developers can use now
A separate platform announcement makes Agent Harness, Developer Agent, Custom Agents and Workday Data Cloud generally available. Developer Agent and Custom Agents are offered through Extend AI. Workday calls the platform headless because agents can use its data and processes outside the traditional application interface.
Developer Agent accepts natural language requests to build agents and applications. Supported development environments include Codex, Cursor, Claude Code and the Workday Developer Site. LangChain framework support and NVIDIA Nemotron support are generally available. Workday is accepting design partners for Google ADK support.
According to Workday, Agent Harness supplies task context such as a person’s role, reporting line and permitted actions. It governs actions and routes tasks to models for cost and performance. Customers and partners use the same underlying Workday permissions, approvals and audit trails.
Those controls are central to the proposal. A useful pilot should check whether an agent respects actual access boundaries and routes exceptions correctly, alongside whether it completes the task. The announcements alone cannot establish how reliably that works in a particular organization.
Where the wider rollout stands
Workday’s wider rollout announcement distinguishes existing self service from the fuller Sana experience. Existing self service is generally available across Slack, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Copilot and Gemini Enterprise. Workday expects the fuller Sana experience there in late 2026.
Claude Cowork currently offers Sana through early access. For Copilot Cowork, that stage is expected in late 2026. These are separate availability commitments, so access to an existing Workday integration does not establish access to every new Sana capability.
For teams evaluating the announcement, the practical starting point is the specific interface and rollout stage they can obtain. Confirm product entitlements, pricing and an account specific access plan before designing a workflow around a feature that is still arriving.
