Canva Brush launches for Pro design edits, with limits

Listen to this article

Canva introduced Brush on October 29, bringing a design-editing vision-language model to supported Canva AI tasks for Pro subscribers. Wider availability has no published date. The practical question is whether it changes the intended elements without disturbing the rest of your work.

Canva says Brush can revise individual text or multi-page designs while leaving elements editable. Open an existing design, or supply its link in Canva AI, then choose Brush in the model dropdown.

What to check before using it for client work

Brand Kit support, attachment references and better handling of image-heavy layouts are still on Canva’s development list. Treat those as planned improvements, not launch capabilities.

Canva reports up to 69% faster editing and 46% lower task cost versus its previous agent. These are vendor figures, not subscription-price reductions or ByteForward test results.

A useful edit needs a review plan

Start with a duplicate of a low-stakes design rather than your only client-ready version. Define both the requested change and what must remain untouched. The examples below are suggested checks, not demonstrations we have run.

Illustrative review checklist, not measured Brush performance.

For example, ask for a shorter headline while explicitly preserving a product name and its qualifying phrase. A more attractive layout is not a successful edit if it changes the offer. Compare the result against the original before exporting or sharing it.

Pro access does not establish an unlimited allowance

Canva’s AI usage guide directs users to Settings, Billing, then AI usage to inspect their balance. Its general allowance system distinguishes tool tiers and plans, with fair-use conditions. That guide should not be read as a specific unlimited Brush entitlement.

The separate AI Pass add-on costs USD $100 per person per month and is available only for eligible plans and billing arrangements. It is optional, not a Brush access requirement stated in the launch announcement. Check your existing account allowance before assuming an add-on is necessary.

Brush versus the editor’s existing assistance

The Ask Canva help page describes selecting an element or page and opening assistance from the editor toolbar. It also explains that allowance consumption depends on whether a request uses a premium feature. That is workflow context, not proof that every existing Ask Canva operation now runs on Brush.

The strongest reason to try a design-editing model is fewer repetitive changes, not permission to skip review. Keep the revision that meets the brief, reject collateral changes and retain a version you can return to.
