ChatGPT adds iCloud Mail and Calendar, with separate connections

ChatGPT now connects to iCloud Mail and Calendar. OpenAI’s October 27 release notes describe finding emails, catching up on an inbox, checking a schedule and updating calendar events. The launch covers all ChatGPT plans on the web, desktop app and iOS. It is a connected-service feature, not a new Siri integration.
The connected-apps guide describes a global rollout subject to workspace controls. Mail and Calendar are separate plugins. Both include read-only contact lookup, but standalone Contacts and Reminders plugins are outside this launch. The announced surfaces do not include Android, and the documentation does not establish an Android launch date.
Mail and Calendar need separate connections
OpenAI’s connection instructions start in Settings, then Plugins. Each service uses an Apple app-specific password. Mail requires an iCloud Mail address ending in @icloud.com, @me.com or @mac.com. Calendar uses the primary Apple Account email, which may be different. Enter the app-specific password in the connection form, not your regular Apple password and not a chat message.

Connecting one service does not authorize the other. That distinction matters for someone whose Apple sign-in address differs from their mailbox address. It also makes the task easier to scope: looking up tomorrow’s appointments need not be treated as a request to work through an inbox.
Reading and changing information are different decisions
The app-permissions documentation distinguishes Always ask, Allow read actions and Allow low-risk actions. Available settings vary. Some eligible individual app or account connections may offer Allow all actions, which can run supported actions without another prompt. That option is not part of the standard account-wide or workspace-wide selectors.
A connection therefore does not imply that every change will always prompt, or that every requested change can run. Provider access, workspace policy and safety protections still apply. Reading an event and changing it are different operations, even when both are discussed in the same conversation.
A useful first trial would be to ask for a summary of a specific date range, then compare the answer with the source calendar. Only after that would a separate request propose an event change, with the intended event, time zone and participants made explicit. This is an evaluation approach, not a claim that ByteForward tested the plugins.
Privacy settings remain a separate review
OpenAI says information accessed through apps may be used for model training for Free, Go, Plus and Pro users when Improve the model for everyone is enabled. Business, Enterprise and Edu app data is not used for training by default. Relevant app information may also be saved in Memory when enabled, unless the app or source restricts it. These controls are separate from action approvals.
Disconnecting an iCloud connection stops its future access through ChatGPT, but does not revoke the app-specific password at Apple. It also does not automatically erase existing conversations, saved files or memories.
An unclear action result is not a reason to repeat it
OpenAI’s troubleshooting guide specifically addresses unclear iCloud sends and calendar edits. It advises inspecting the affected message, event or recurring series in the intended Apple account before retrying. A failed-looking response is not proof that nothing changed.
That is the practical boundary to keep in view. The new connection can reduce the need to move email and scheduling context into a chat manually. It does not remove the need to identify the right account, inspect important changes or decide what information should be retained. Our coverage of OpenAI’s dots rollout looks at those questions for ongoing agents, a separate product with its own eligibility.
